Dr Maggie Watson
School of Environmental Sciences, Institute for Land Water and Society
Dr Maggie Watson is a ecological parasitologist who specialises in the relationships between ecto-parasites and their natural hosts in the wild. Much of her work relates to the positive effects that parasites have on their hosts such as immune system priming. Study systems she works on in this area include lice on seabirds (terns) and fleas on native Australian mammals. She is also interested in applied ecological conservation and works with various groups to ensure that conservation goals are informed by evidence-based science. Her study systems include the Murray Crayfish and reptiles of the world.
