National Industry Linked PhD Program – AI-guided personalised and assistive device prescription

This project aims to address the issue of generic medical and assistive device prescriptions for patients with diabetic-related foot disease by utilising and advancing artificial intelligence to guide personalised device prescriptions, allowing for individual patient preferences and lifestyles. The project expects to develop an innovative tool for the pedorthic industry, assisting clinicians in prescribing personalised medical devices.

  • Eligibility

    As per Charles Sturt University's standard eligibility requirements for entry to a PhD.

    This scholarship is open to full-time domestic applicants only.

    Additional requirements include:

    • Bachelor with honours or master’s degree in computer science, information technology, or a relevant field
    • Knowledge or research experience in data analytics, artificial intelligence, machine learning, or decision support systems
    • Basic knowledge in health informatics/Pedorthics or willing to learn
    • Experience in publishing research article(s) in reputed Journal(s)/conference(s)
    • Willing to spend 30% of time in industry partner settings in Sydney
    • Willing to work in allied health clinical settings for data collection and travel as required
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication, and analytical skills
    • Highly motivated, hardworking, and committed
  • Award value

    The scholarship provides the following benefits:

    Base RTP Stipend: $29,863 per annum (2023 rate), payable in fortnightly instalments. The rate will increase for 2024 commencements but the specific rate is still to be determined.

    Stipend Top-Up 1: $10,000 per annum payable in fortnightly instalments.

    Stipend Top-Up 2: $6,210 per annum payable in fortnightly instalments.

    Tuition Fees: Fee exemption for a period equivalent to four years (eight sessions) for PhD at full-time study.

    RTP Operating Funds: $2,500 per annum to assist with the reimbursement of costs associated with a candidate’s research.

    Industry Operating Funds: $3,000 per annum as aligned with the research agreement to assist with research costs.

    Relocation Allowance: Scholarship recipients may be eligible to receive a relocation allowance for the cost of relocating themselves, their spouse, and dependants to a Charles Sturt University campus, to a maximum of AUD $5,000.

  • Scholarship duration

    The scholarship is tenable for four years for Research Doctorate studies.

    The RTP components are four years FTE tuition fee coverage and three years FTE for the stipend and operating funds allowances, subject to satisfactory progress.

    An extension of up to six months may be granted for the RTP stipend and operating funds components only, where the candidate is making satisfactory progress and the grounds for the extension relate to the study and are beyond the control of the candidate.

    The stipend top-ups and industry operating funds allowances are tenable for four years FTE.

    Scholarship candidates are entitled to 20 paid annual leave working days per year and 10 paid sick leave days per year, however are not eligible for paid primary parental care leave or additional personal leave.

    When given the option to apply for a scholarship select 'Yes'; 'Full-time AGRTP' and 'Other'. Under 'Other' enter National Industry Linked PhD Program.
